A BIT ABOUT WORKING WITH ME

Therapy is a process and a journey. I am knowledgeable about therapy and mindfulness, but you are the expert in your life and where you want to go. I work to create a safe, empathetic space for you. I walk alongside you as we explore the challenges that are holding you back from living your fullest life. I help you come up with solutions that work for your lifestyle and goals.

The beauty of mindfulness is that it is gentle and fosters kindness to ourselves. It is also highly effective and often has quick results. Sometimes, the effects on pain, anxiety and depression are immediate.

Mindfulness is an important part of my practice, but mindfulness is not a magic bullet. As a certified trauma clinician, I know mindfulness is not for everyone, especially those who have suffered psychological trauma. I also use CBT, Solution-Focused techniques, self compassion, and Internal Family Systems to help my clients that would prefer not to use mindfulness or meditation. CBT focuses on challenging our thoughts and perceptions. Solution-focused techniques focus on strengths and allow us to explore how to move forward. Self compassion helps us to accept ourselves and better understand our needs, while moving toward our goals. Internal Family Systems helps us to better understand our own internal conflicts and helps us to resolve these conflicts.

ABOUT ME

I’m Maya Phansalker-Davies, a Registered Psychotherapist based in Ottawa Ontario. I practice virtually across Ontario, BC, Newfoundland and Quebec. I'm here to guide you through life’s most complex and difficult matters. I truly care about my patients’ well-being.

In my early twenties, I began suffering from chronic health issues, including digestive issues and chronic pain. Modern medicine only offered temporary solutions, but my body was slowly breaking down and my health kept deteriorating. At one point, I was so debilitated that doing the most basic functions was next to impossible. Not only was I physically suffering, but it soon became clear that my ways of dealing with problems, overworking and being chronically anxious were creating even more suffering. Eventually, I found my way to mindfulness. It was only a few weeks before I began to experience better health. However, over the weeks and months that followed, my relationships improved, my stress levels came down, and I was more efficient at work.

I became fascinated with how meditation helped to change my brain. I was seeing the world differently, and not reacting to my normal triggers. I had more joy and peace. My fascination with the emotional changes I was experiencing led me to pursue a masters degree in counselling psychology.  During my masters, I grew passionate about self compassion, internal family systems, solution focused work and CBT and how these tools can be used alongside mindfulness to get even better results for clients.

I have since helped clients with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, bipolar disorder, ADHD and more with mindfulness and other therapeutic techniques. Helping others has led to immense satisfaction in my work and I now have gratitude for my suffering because it allowed me to help others.  Learn more about how I work with different issues here
