A 30 Second Yoga Flow

Updated: Apr 30, 2020

In these unprecedented times, many of us are struggling. Whether we’re struggling with the uncertainty and fear of our own future and that of loved ones, or the sadness and loneliness of living in isolation, the feelings of discomfort are very real. If there’s one thing I know that always helps when my mood is low or my anxieties are running high, it’s mindfulness. However, to start a mindfulness habit now may be asking too much, especially when we’re all in a state of distress. Yoga, on the other hand, is a more accessible way to practice mindful movement. Many of us who practice yoga can attest to the healing power of this ancient practice. But if you’re not familiar with it, now may just be the perfect time to get started.

We don’t fully understand why yoga is such a powerful tool in mood regulation, but some researchers think that yoga increases psychological flexibility (1). Psychological flexibility is the ability to stay present, even in difficult physical and emotional circumstances. That means that yogis are able to stay grounded, even when the world around them seems to be caving in, or when their thoughts are overwhelming. This leads to being more capable of making healthy decisions, even when the whole world is literally in a state of panic.

Today, I have a little video for you. I show you a very quick 30-second yoga flow that you can do in a small space, even without a mat (but you might want something soft under your knees if you’re new to yoga). Repeat the flow as many times as you like. This can be especially helpful if you are struggling emotionally.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!
